نمونه سوال اسپیکینگ آیلتس (Politeness)

یکی از مسائل مهم در بخش اسپیکینگ آزمون آیلتس آشنایی نسبی با موضوعات مطرح شده می باشد.
گاهی ممکن است آزمون دهنده تسلط قابل قبولی در اسپیکینگ داشته باشد، اما موضوع مطرح شده به گونه ای باشد که فرد نتواند به آن پاسخ دهد. یکی از موضوعاتی که زبان آموزان اخیراً در مورد آن مشکل داشته اند، مبحث Politeness است.

نمونه‌ی پاسخ به این سوالات:

It was some weeks ago when I called Fahim, Pourya, and Donya, a couple of my classmates from Derakhte Javidan. We hadn’t seen each other for more than four months, so we thought it was time to catch up. They suggested an exotic restaurant, and although I don’t like foreign food at all, they talked me into going there. When we arrived at the restaurant, the place was full of people and we had to wait. After 20 minutes, we were given a table. Since I was really hungry, I asked my friends to immediately order. However, it took them ages to serve us, and when they brought the food, we realized the dishes were not the ones we had ordered. I was furious at that point; not only had the waiter made a mistake, but he also refused point-blank to change it.

Fahim’s face was going red with rage and I could sense he was about to start an argument with the manager. I asked him not to get involved, though, and despite being irritated with the service, I tried to stay calm and explained the predicament as nicely and politely as I could. Although he seemed like the type of person you couldn’t reason with, I guess it affected him, as he apologized to us and sent us treats on the house.

I felt relieved at that point. By acting politely, I prevented an argument. Besides, I guess I was really pleased with the way things went, especially since the manager appreciated how politely I treated him, something that people usually mistake for being naïve.

Expressions:

talk someone into (doing) something: to convince someone to do something
point-blank: without explaining your reason; stubbornly
someone’s face goes red with rage: to get angry in a way it’s clear to see it in someone’s face
predicament: a difficult or unpleasant situation in which you do not know what to do
mistake (v): to understand something wrongly
